One of the most unpredictable gangland trials in recent history at the Ottawa courthouse — the first-degree murder trial of two men accused of killing drug dealer Mohamed "Magic" Najdi — resulted in two acquittals, leaving a packed courtroom stunned.

The verdict, delivered Friday afternoon, acquitting accused killers Nedeljko "Boz" Borozan and Mohamed "Shadow" Mohamed, silenced a courtroom of prosecutors and homicide detectives.

Crown prosecutors had alleged that Borozan and Mohamed were involved in a plot to kidnap Najdi and hold him for a $40,000 ransom. The Crown argued that, in January 2016, Borozan, Mohamed and five others carried out the plan, meeting first for two hours and then travelling to a parking lot where Najdi had been lured. But things went awry.

Najdi broke free of his would-be captors and fled, only to be shot twice by a man the Crown alleged was Mohamed. A jury of nine men and three women found both men not guilty of charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter and kidnapping.

............. In court, Najdi's sister began yelling at the accused as the final words of the verdicts were read out by the jury foreman.

"Congratulations, you're f—ing free. You killed someone and you're f—ing free," she yelled before breaking down in tears. "This is your justice system, guys. This is your f—ing justice system.

"Shadow, don't forget there's a God," she said before storming out of the courtroom.

Outside the courtroom, Hussein Najdi, Najdi's younger brother, who was also a witness at trial, began yelling at a reporter for this newspaper, calling her "a f—ing goof" and a "paki" for her prior coverage of the trial.

The family had previously told this newspaper that Najdi did the right thing by co-operating with police on a previous homicide case and that he was cowardly shot when unarmed and running for his life.......

[After reading, I'm wondering why prosecution thought 1. These guys would actually testify and 2. Why the jury would believe them even if they did .. then, what do I know ... gangland testifiers have gotten gangsters convicted before

Seems 3 others will be in jail awhile after pleading out
